Exploring Gucci-GRAMMY Widget

Unlocking the World of Development, Design and Timepieces

01/2011

Originally developed to celebrate the launch of Gucci Timepieces and Jewelry's I-Gucci Sport line, the Gucci-GRAMMY® widget broke new ground in web development and graphic design. Released in late 2010 as a free download for Mac and PC, it found a second lease on life the following year on GRAMMY.com, where it still features prominently.

Floating perfection...
...Photorealistic design rivals reality
A second lease on life: From the desktop to the web, the widget lives on
Designed and developed from the ground up by Wollzelle, the widget marries a straightforward feature set with exuberant refinement in code and design. The photorealistic timepiece and box display the user's local time, the time in Los Angeles — where the event takes place — and a countdown to next year's ceremony. Inspired by actual Gucci timepieces, the design is accurate to the smallest detail. Shading and distortions are carefully applied to fool and seduce the eye.

The face of the watch is a perfect reproduction of the actual physical dial. Fonts, colours and animations were translated with exacting care into the digital world. This ambitious project was rendered all the more challenging by stringent compatibility requirements, necessitated by the GRAMMY®'s wide and diverse audience. We pulled all the stops to devise a solution that is clean, adaptable and elegant.
