1. Finally, I'm person of the year 2006 ;)

This person of the year 2006 issue of the time magazine— the largest one ever printed— has a nice cover with an reflective Mylar on it. It somehow pretends that we are not entering another bubble? Anyway, this question is just rhetorical and time will tell or at least google stock quote ;)

This issue of time magazine is a great christmas gift for everyone in the new digital democracy. But still, I prefer the person of the year mirror in The Big Lebowski.

Has anyone an idea where to get this mirror?

Merry Christmas and wonderful holidays from Wollzelle!

  4. typestorming transfer done!

We’ve finished updating our blog to the latest version of mephisto, a great blogging app by Rick Olson.

Regardless of the hiccups you might have noticed (sorry for that!), the comments are now back again.

  5. design, coffee and statistics

It’s now almost exactly a year since we moved to our new office— and bought our shiny new coffee machine. We think it speaks for itself…

  6. pimp the office

Our CD Christina found a great art-print a view weeks ago. We all love it! It describes exactly our doing-crazy-stuff-still-beautifully-executed approach ;). Now it arrived and we had a lot of fun putting it up without any equipment.

  7. Fluxiom review in Page magazine

Page a professional magazine for creative media design, publishing and trends, reviewed our webservice Fluxiom in their current issue. Page is a leading design and publishing magazine in the german-speaking area.

“In addition to the smart features Fluxiom scores with an intuitive interface […] in practice Fluxiom helps to avoid cramped mailboxes […] and messenger services costs”—Page Magazine 11/2006 (p.64f)

It will be interesting if this has any effect on the geographical distribution of our customers. Right now only eight percent of our users are from german speaking countries (as of the October 1, 2006). In general over 80 percent of our customers are outside the EU.

  8. 30 years of apple, exhibition and talks

At the exhibition Form C:\ to double-click (30 years of Apple) at the Austrian Museum for Social and Economic Affairs in Vienna I will give a talk about “Designing an Application” with insight in the design process of fluxiom and what we’ve learned…

The event is hosted by tools at work and also includes talks from Martin Kahr and Wolfgang Ante. The exhibition also shows various historic Apple models including a working NeXT machine. So don’t miss it!

Austrian Museum for Social and Economic Affairs
    1050 Vienna, Vogelsanggasse 36
When: October 4, 6pm — be sure to register (admission free!)

    Update 10/09/06

See more images from the event and some historic Apple models at www.toolsatwork.com.

  9. Finally, decent fast food

Vienna is known for coffee. And nice Wiener Schnitzels. But fast-food wise it’s really, really boring and dull. You get the usual american chains with their bland food, tasteless “weckerls” in the supermarket and you have the Würstelstände (which are perfect for late night after-drinking food intake, but you don’t want this during the day).

Well, not anymore. Enter Lena & Laurenz which borrows from the concepts of british sandwich chains. Take delicious and fresh hearty sandwiches, combine them with the best juices around and also have salads and soups ready. Add the best-ever coffee for the Viennese touch. Perfect.

  10. Wollzelle “low battery”

We need a short break— so we are on leave till August 16. We’ll fill up our batteries to come back with fresh creative thoughts and ideas…

  11. Welcome to typestorming

We hope you enjoy it and of course grab the rss feed to stay tuned.

For those of you interested in a little “behind-the-scenes” glimpse, here’s what happened after the first draft of the layout was complete, with the Illustrator file not saved until to this point (of course):

  13. Today marks the first birthday of script.aculo.us, which was launched on June 22, 2005.

Since it’s humble beginnings as an effects add-on to Prototype and coming directly out of what we at wollzelle needed for fluxiom, it’s seen many uses on high- and not-so-high-level web sites, plus it’s covered in many articles all over the web and the blogosphere and all kinds of books.

Conservative estimates are that script.aculo.us has had more than a million downloads (counting the packages from the script.aculo.us download site, and the inclusions within frameworks, first and foremost Ruby on Rails).

script.aculo.us was an enormous success (it ranks #4 in the del.icio.us all-time popular sites!) and personally I’m very proud of it (and all the people that contributed to it!).

A big thanks at all the contributors— let’s see if we can make the second year as exciting as the first.

    The Web is still changing.

  19. Ajax Workshop, New York

Learn how to give your sites and web applications the rich interactivity they deserve with this intensive one day workshop taught by world-renowned expert Thomas Fuchs. Make the jump to Ajax and start using it to its full advantage.

  20. Audible Ajax Episode 12

“Some of the first “wow” moments were due to the effects created by Thomas Fuchs in his Script.aculo.us library that builds on top of Prototype. Many people didn’t realise that with one line of JavaScript code they could get such a nice effect to happen, and now ugly developer-created sites have a chance ;) We had the pleasure of interviewing Thomas, an we got to discuss his frameworks, and gain knowledge from his experience.” — www.ajaxian.com
