Gucci’s catalogues are getting grander

02/2014

Wollzelle and Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry have been working hand-in-hand on refining and redefining digital experiences since 2008. Over the past six years, we have closely followed the birth and growth of the most advanced technologies, from immersive web design to enhanced reality. GucciTimeless.com has been repeatedly praised by customers and industry players alike for pushing the boundaries of online luxury.

Sometimes, the most mundane features of a site are the most difficult to modernise: blame technology, blame tradition, blame whatever you wish, certain pages just don’t want to evolve. So it was with the humble catalogues which, until today, had been a Flash insert in an otherwise responsive, fluid, and open site. We both knew that we could do better, and craft an end-to-end cinematic experience for Gucci’s demanding audience.

Thanks to some clever HTML5 development, something for which Wollzelle has been known, and deep integration with our image manipulation platform Maiko, the new catalogues on Gucci Timeless are fully fluid, and fully open. They load quickly, and regale readers with pixel-perfect photographs of Gucci’s amazing designs, regardless of the device and network they happen to be on.

Being open and programmable means the catalogues can now reach deep into Gucci’s online shop, and provide direct links to the items being displayed — if and when they are available online. Links to other shopping tools, such as the store locator, are also provided automatically whenever purchasing the item requires a face-to-face consultation with a specialist. From dreaming to buying, all stumbling blocks have been removed once and for all.

Finally, the new catalogues draw from Gucci’s Wollzelle-developed central back-end. This data store already powers the brand’s shop-in-shop displays worldwide, and the site’s commercial pages. Central management of these assets diminishes the risk of discrepancies across the various distribution channels, and substantially cuts down on publishing costs.

This simple update to GucciTimeless.com may not make the front page, literally, but it reaffirms our joint commitment to crafting ever simpler and ever more elegant online experiences for the company’s dedicated and enthusiastic followers. It fully completes the Gucci experience, both on the front- and the back-end, and heralds a new era of agility for all its web properties.
